Peter and Diana Pride are the founders of the Crispy Crepe System. In 1975 they opened their first restaurant in Cavill Avenue, Surfers Paradise called 'The Creperie'. The Crispy Crepe System was developed in this business.
Theirs was the first and only restaurant in Australia (at that time) specialising in 'crepes only' both sweet and savoury. They produced a crepe product, which was more suited to the Australian taste and lifestyleÖ. 'a good feed'. A product which offered Worldwide Cuisine, in a fast food environment - not just a French Crepe!
More Creperies opened in Queensland over the next five years, successfully using the Crispy Crepe System. A further four (4) fast food sites opened in Sydney in the early 1980's with locations in the Food Courts of most major Shopping Centres.
Diana was widowed in 1984 and left to carry on the business alone. She spent a number of years participating in trade shows around the world e.g. USA, Canada, Japan and NZ testing the marketability of the 'system' and acceptance of the product.
During this time she also improved and modified equipment to minimise on-going service and maintenance. The technique used to operate the crepemaker is now 'user friendly'. The cooking process has been simplified and product knowledge improved by producing a Training Video for operators and their staff.
Many 'systems' have been sold both overseas and in Australia with successful sites operating today.
Crispy Crepes is a growing business today and Diana runs it with the help of her three children. Their plan is to expand both nationally and internationally.
